Classical Yoga Nidraa Teacher Training

A sacred return to stillness, awareness, and the deeper dimensions of consciousness

There is a place within you that is always quiet.

Classical Yoga Nidrā is an invitation to discover it.

More than a guided relaxation practice and more than a script to read to your students, Classical Yoga Nidrā is a systematic Yogic practice of conscious relaxation and inner awareness. As the body becomes deeply relaxed and the senses turn inward, we begin to explore subtler states of consciousness and our relationship with the mind.

This 40-hour training is an opportunity to experience Nidrā deeply before learning to teach it.

Inspired by the classical teachings of the Gitananda Yoga tradition of Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga, this training brings together traditional Yogic practices, philosophy, and contemporary understanding of the nervous system and brain.

Why this training is different...

You learn the state, not just the script

Yoga Nidrā is not something you simply read aloud to another person. The teacher's own state of awareness matters.

You will spend significant time experiencing the practices yourself, learning how to enter a state of deep relaxation while maintaining awareness. Rather than relying on a prescribed script, you will learn the principles behind the practice and develop the ability to guide Nidrā in your own authentic voice.

A classical approach

The practices are rooted in a traditional Yogic framework rather than the modern idea of Nidrā as simply a tool for sleep or stress reduction.

We will explore the progression of practices including Shavasana, Savitri Pranayama, Marmanasthanam Kriya, polarity breath, and the spiral journey from the navel centre, developing an understanding of why these practices are included and how they work together.

A journey inward

Classical Yoga Nidrā offers a gradual movement from the gross to the subtle.

We begin by learning how to release unnecessary physical effort. From there, awareness is refined through breath, sensation, attention and the inner landscape of the mind.

The practices invite us to explore Pratyahara, the states of consciousness, the vayus, chakras, lokas, Sankalpa and the possibility of resting in awareness beyond ordinary mental activity.

Ancient teachings meet contemporary understanding

Traditional Yogic teachings are explored alongside contemporary perspectives on sleep, brain-wave activity, sensory processing and body mapping. You will encounter concepts such as the sensory-motor homunculus and the Somato-Cognitive Action Network, while also considering how these modern ideas can and cannot be compared with traditional Yogic understandings. The goal is not to make Yoga fit neatly into modern science, but to create an informed dialogue between two different ways of understanding human experience.

Shell Andréa has studied Classical Yoga Nidrā within the Gitananda tradition of Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga, including direct study with Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani of Pondicherry, India along with mentors and senior teachers. Her approach to teaching Yoga is grounded in respect for traditional teachings while making them accessible, practical and relevant to contemporary students. This training is offered as an opportunity to explore Nidrā not simply as something we do, but as a practice through which we learn to rest, observe and become more intimate with our own awareness.
