Enter the Great Night of Shiva with Shell & Anton
March 5-7, 2027 \ Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre, Beausejour, MB

Space is limited, reserve your spot early to join us for this special weekend aligned with the sacred energy of Shiva, The Destroyer.

Shell & Anton with Nataraj, Sivananda Yoga Ashram Bahamas

Join us for a sacred weekend retreat honouring Maha Shivaratri - the Great Night of Shiva - a powerful time in the Yogic tradition for turning inward, quieting the mind, and remembering the deeper nature of who we are.

From Friday, March 5 through Sunday, March 7, we will gather in community for a weekend of traditional Yoga practices, meditation, Mantra, philosophy, storytelling, ritual, and Kirtan celebration of Maha Shivaratri on Saturday evening.

Shiva is often understood as the destroyer, but destruction in the Yogic tradition is not something to fear. Shiva represents the dissolution of that which is no longer needed - the identities, attachments, patterns, and limitations that keep us from recognizing our essential nature. Maha Shivaratri invites us into the darkness not as something to escape, but as a sacred space in which to become still enough to see clearly and turn our awareness toward the Divine, thus overcoming ignorance.

This retreat is an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and create space for transformation. Rather than simply learning about Shiva, we will use the practices of Yoga to experience the qualities that Shiva represents which are innate in us all: stillness, awareness, surrender, transformation, and the freedom that comes when we release our attachment to the constantly changing world around us.

Location

Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre is located near Beausejour, Manitoba on 36 peaceful acres of wooded parkland beside the Brokenhead River. Surrounded by forest and quiet natural spaces, the location offers a beautiful environment for stepping away from the noise and busyness of everyday life and turning our attention inward.

Schedule

Arrive Friday between 6:00-6:45pm for room check in. We'll gather at 7pm for our first session. We'll be together until 2pm Sunday.

Weekend Highlights

  • Asana Practice: Traditional, yet accessible Hatha Yoga Asana practices designed to cultivate those aspects of Shiva which we wish to embody: steadiness, strength, receptivity, and inner awareness. Our physical practice will become a preparation for deeper meditation and contemplation rather than simply an exercise for the body.

  • Pranayama & Meditation: Explore traditional breath and meditation practices that help quiet the fluctuations of the mind and turn awareness inward. We will create space to experience the stillness and spaciousness at the heart of Shiva.

  • Mantra & Chanting: Immerse yourself in sacred Mantra, including the powerful Shiva Mantra Om Namah Shivaya. Through repetition of sacred sound, we will explore the relationship between vibration, awareness, devotion, and the nature of consciousness.

  • Kirtan: Come together in devotional song as we chant the names and qualities of Shiva. This special 3-hour Kirtan offers a beautiful bridge between meditation and devotion, allowing the intellectual understanding of the teachings of Shiva to become something felt directly in the heart.

  • Yoga Philosophy: Explore the place of Shiva within the broader Yogic tradition and reflect on themes of impermanence, stillness, surrender, Tapas, Vairagya, consciousness and the nature of the Self. We will consider what it means to let go of the identities and patterns that obscure our deeper awareness.

  • Shiva Storytelling & Symbolism: Through traditional stories and imagery associated with Shiva, we will explore the many paradoxes of this profound figure: destroyer and creator, ascetic and householder, stillness and wildness, darkness and light.

  • Maha Shivaratri Puja & Ritual: Our weekend together will include traditional-inspired ritual, offerings, Mantra, meditation, and devotional practices as we honour Shiva and mark the sacred night together.

  • Reflection & Journaling: There will be opportunities for quiet contemplation, journaling, and personal reflection. You will be invited to consider what you are ready to release, what you are being called to surrender, and what becomes possible when you create space for something new.

  • Maha Shivaratri T-shirt: As a special gift for joining us, each participant will receive an exclusive Maha Shivaratri t-shirt.

A Weekend of Sadhana

This retreat is not intended to be a typical Yoga getaway.

It is an opportunity to enter more deeply into your Sadhana - your committed spiritual practice undertaken for the purpose of transformation and awakening.

Throughout the weekend, we will gradually move from outward activity toward inward stillness. From sound into silence. From the personal into the universal.

And on Saturday night, as we gather for Maha Shivaratri, we will have the opportunity to experience this transition together through Mantra, meditation, Kirtan, and contemplation.

There is no requirement to be experienced in meditation, chanting, philosophy, or Asana. All practices will be offered in an accessible and welcoming way, while remaining rooted in the traditional teachings of Yoga.

Nourishment & Community

Nourishment will come from five wholesome vegetarian meals, shared in community, along with the simple gifts of reflection, quiet time, and plenty of space to rest and integrate.

Our intention is to create a supportive and intimate environment where you can step away from your usual responsibilities and give yourself permission to simply be.

There will be opportunities for connection and conversation, as well as ample time for silence and solitude.

What You May Discover

Maha Shivaratri asks us a profound question:

What are you willing to let go of so that you can remember who you truly are?

Perhaps there is an old pattern that has run its course:

  • An identity you have outgrown

  • A fear that no longer needs to guide you

  • An attachment that keeps you from being fully present

  • Or simply a longing to experience more deeply the stillness that already exists beneath the noise of everyday life

This weekend offers a container for that exploration. Through the practices of Yoga, we will honour Shiva not merely as a deity to worship, but as a symbol of the profound stillness, awareness, and transformative potential within us and consciousness itself.

Come as you are. Bring what you are ready to release. And enter the Great Night of Shiva with us.
