Yoga Teacher Training Program

This comprehensive yoga teacher training program is designed to equip Yoga instructors with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to effectively teach yoga to older adults or individuals with low mobility. Informed by ancient teachings and modern research, this course provides a deep understanding of the unique needs, challenges, and gifts of older practitioners.

Older Adults Practicing Yoga

From physical practices to spiritual teachings, participants will learn how to create safe, accessible, and enriching yoga experiences for older adults, fostering physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

Course Topics:

 

1. Introduction to Yoga for Older Adults

  • Understanding the essence of yoga

  • Tailoring yoga practices for older practitioners

  • Exploring the barriers and gifts of aging

 

2. Ancient Teachings on Aging

  • Delving into ancient wisdom on the stages of life

  • Exploring the concept of Dharma in the context of aging

  • Understanding the Pancha Kosha and its relevance to aging

 

3. Physical Practice for Older Adults

  • Techniques for joint mobilization and flexibility

  • Chair asanas for seated practice

  • Addressing common considerations for aging bodies

 

4. Breath and Relaxation Techniques

  • Harnessing the power of breath for vitality and calm

  • Types of seated guided relaxations for older adults

  • Incorporating visualization for relaxation and focus

 

5. Teaching Strategies and Project

  • Tips for effective instruction and communication

  • How to find work teaching Yoga to older adults

  • Developing a project to apply learning in a practical setting

Throughout the course, participants will engage in a blend of theoretical study, experiential learning, and practical application. With a focus on holistic well-being, this training empowers yoga teachers to support older adults on their journey towards health, vitality, and spiritual growth.

Certification: Upon completion, participants will receive a certification in Yoga Teaching for Older Adults. The program counts for 30 hours in Continuing Education Units(CEUs) for Yoga Teachers in the Canadian Yoga Alliance.

Duration: 30 hours (4 full days over 2 weekends)
